The design of the garden on Seestrasse in Küsnacht was based on the ideas of the original client, Carl Gustav Jung. In intense dialogue with the architect, Ernst Fiechter, often conducted in writing, he developed, detailed, and refined his ideas for the garden. Beginning in 1907, the process lasted almost two years before the horticultural firm E. Mertens’ Erben (E. Mertens’s heirs) was hired and began furnishing the garden, which had already been sketched out in all important respects, with appropriate plants. The garden today has matured impressively bit in largely original; together with the house and the outbuildings, it forms a unique ensemble.
