Krämeracker school complex awarded Baupreis 2019

The Zurich Oberland Architecture Forum, Architekturforum Zürcher Oberland, has awarded the architecture prize Baupreis 2019 to the Krämeracker School in Uster, designed by Boltshauser Architekten. We are very pleased!

But we are even more delighted that the school grounds have also been awarded the Baupreis 2019.

The jury, with landscape architect Stefan Rotzler, recognizes the construction as a very happy state of affairs where “... the architectural quality of the school building and the landscape architectural design of the open areas work together so wonderfully; architecture and landscape architecture come together as equal partners, enrich and enhance each other”.  And we also agree that that’s exactly how it should be!

PWG Initial Design Proposal Ackersteinstrasse 172, 1st Prize

The non-profit foundation PWG maintains and creates affordable residential and commercial space in the city of Zurich. It was founded by a popular initiative. Since the start of operations in 1991 the foundation has acquired up to 10 properties each year. One of them is the pretty house in a sunny location on Ackersteinstrasse 172 in Zürich-Höngg.

The house, built in 1933, is in poor state of repair and must be replaced by new construction. In addition, utilization provisions allow a larger new building. In an anonymous architecture competition, the project by Atelier Scheidegger Keller for compact 2.5- and 3.5-room flats and our design proposal for landscaping won 1st prize.

Trotte Assisted Living and Nursing Home, Zürich-Wipkingen

We have been engaged in the planning of the landscape design of the grounds at the Trotte assisted living and nursing home in Wipkingen for 12 years.  As the team Enzmann Fischer Architekten, of which we are a member, were the winners of the open competition of the City of Zurich in 2008, the design of the exterior spaces could be expanded to the city-owned neighbouring property of the Alte Trotte for the purpose of site development. Between the new construction replacing the old Trotte Nursing Home and the student residence in the Alte Trotte there is now a public park, which in addition to generous perennial gardens also incorporates a playing field for the needs of the Wipkingen neighbourhood association. The handicapped-accessible system of paths opens up a new, higher-level connection between two streets: Nordstrasse, which runs parallel to the slope, and Trottenstrasse. The inner access system allows for loop paths for daily walks and also for therapy purposes. Away from the public eye and with direct access from the building there is a Dementia Garden with a lush planting bed on a shady terrace enclosed by pergolas. In front of the new park and next to the new senior citizens’ home, there is a café and restaurant with outdoor seating and a water basin.

Gardeners of the GGZ Gartenbau Genossenschaft Zurich are currently hard at work to make possible views of the freshly planted landscaping by 3 May 2019, the handover date for the senior citizens’ home.
